76 — Friday, May 28, 1999 ~ North Shore News Valley homes come with line dances From page 47 associated with buying there is that resale value could be a problem. Ifyou are afraid that as an ‘Island dweller you are going to eventually end up paving for Mr. Clark’s so-called fast ferries, you instead could consider the Fraser Valley as a place to settle down. There is a nice four-bedroom home for sale in West Newton in Surrey for $199,800 or if you don’t mind going a bit far- ther you can get one in East Newton for $199,500. A lit- tle farther up the valley in Langley or Abbotsford, our typical home also lists in the $190,000s. OF course you have to add to that the cost of your new pick-up truck and your line dancing lessons, If that is still too much money you can keep heading east until you hit the Okanagan Valley. There the housing is surprisingly inex- pensive, considering the pleasant climate and the beautiful scenery. In Penticton there is a 2,116- square-foot home listed at $157,900 and in Okanagan Falls there is similar one for $152,900. Moving on to the Kootenays, there is a 2,1 28- square-foot home in Nelson with vaulted ecilings and a custom kitchen for $174,900. A bit farther cast, just outside of Creston, you can get a 1,950-square-foot home for $159,000 on nvo acres with “a panoramic view” but no ocean glimpses -— apparently even realtors cat promise that up there. Finally, there are some great values in the other direction up on the Sunshine Coast. Hf you like small - towns, in Sechelt there is a 2,640-square-toot home for sale for $169,500 or if that is tov bustling for you there is one for the same price in Robert's Creek on 0.4 of an acre. So there you have it. You can move less than an hour away and pocket over $200,000 or you can move somewhat farther afield and save even more. Or you can forget the whole idea and continue to enjoy lite on the North Shore which, 1 sus- pect, is what most of you will be doing.
