UPDATE Drewitt nets boxing silv NORTH VANCOUVER boxer Bill Drewitt won the silver medal at the Blue and Gotd National Invitational Boxing Tournament in Los Angeles on the Labor Day weekend. Fighting in the middie weight ciass, Drewitt finished second out of a field of nine fighters. B.C. also took home the team trophy from the tournament. Drewitt, 22, said he was pleased with his runner-up perfor- mance after finishing a disappointing fifth in last year’s Blue and Gold. He fought three fights, winning his first on a 5-0 decision and his second when his opponent’s coach threw the towel in. In the final match, Drewitt lost on a 3-2 decision against fellow Canadian Bruce Carrington who is ranked No. 8 in the world. The 579°’, 165-pound boxer trains at the Mapleridge Boxing Club five days a week while also working as a repair welding technician with Ronsons in Vancouver. Drewitt’s twin brother, Rob, placed third in the light heavy weight division a( the Los Angeles tournament. Meanwhile, the twins’ brother, Eddie, 16, won a silver medal in the Western Canadian Games earlier this year. In the final fight, Eddie, a Grade 10 student at Sutherland, was on the losing side of a 4-1 decision against Walt Flemming of Calgary, a four-time national champion.
