The Board of Schoo! Trustees, North Vancouver have fun learning about health topics such as fitness, dental care and bike safety. Health fairs aimed at school-age kids WHEN CHILDREN start school this year, they are going to learn more than the 3 R’s. They’re going to learn how to take care of their health and safety as well. At least that is what the North Shore Health Department is hop- ing. The department is planning a series of Ready-Set-Go School Beginners Health Fairs throughout North Vancouver aimed at children planning to start school in September. Shirley Witt of the health department says the fairs are meant to ‘help kids understand all the positive health things they can do for themselves when they start school.”* Immunizations will be offered — Witt says that children in this area tend to “‘lag behind’’ children in other areas when it comes to getting their shots — parents will learn how to check for head lice, and children will learn about nevtri- tion, exercise and bike safety. “It’s a fun way for kids zo learn avout their health,’’ says Witt, noting that 250 children par- ticipated in the popular program last year. The health fairs are offered be- tween 1:30 and 7 p.m. on the fol- lowing dates: © Wednesday, May 30 — Blueridge Elementary School, 2650 Bronte Dr. © Monday, June 4 — Canyon WEST VANCOUVER SCHOOL DISTRICT 45 YOUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS...
