Experts offer tips

THE STOP and go of city driving
causes stress to a car engine. This
can be lessened by increasing the
frequency of oil and filter changes
beyond the recommended amount.
Just remember to follow common
guidelines:

¢ Change your oil to consistent
mileage intervals of 3,000 to 5,000
miles using a high quality lubri-
cant.

* Keeping the outside of your
engine clean will prevent dirt and
grime from getting inside your
engine.

© Examine the dirty oil drained
from your car’s engine for large
dirt particles or metal shavings.
The best way to do this is to strain
the oil. Excessive particles or shav-
ings may indicate undue engine
wear.

© Keep up-to-date detailed service
and repair records for your car to
eliminate any guessing games later.
Be sure to include what the origi-
nal problem was; when the service
or repair was done; and who did
the work.

the less viscous 5W-30 grade motor
oil which will not thicken up as
much as 10OW-40.

oil through a dirty filter is self-
