Police held off with a knife A NORTH Vancouver woman was to appear in North Vancouver provincial court ‘Tuesday charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. The 39-year-old woman allegediy held off North Vancouver RCMP for three hours Friday night with a butcher knife after they appeured at an East 27th home to enforce a custody order. Claudette Mongrain, of 1110 East 27th St., was charged Satur- day and remanded in custody. A ban on publication was placed on details of court proceedings. NV fisherman finds body THE BODY of a man was discovered Tuesday morning by a North Vancouver man fishing for salmon near Lions Gate Bridge. Bill (Woodpecker) Boychuk found the body lying on gravel near a bridge pylon at approximately 6:10 a.m. Said Boychuk: ‘It looked like he jumped from the bridge. I saw this guy lying there, and holy suffering catfish, his face was all splattered. I poked him with a stick, but he didn't move.”’ The police investigation continues. Police search for body WEST VANCOUVER Police searched Saturday and Sunday for a body reportedly washed up on the rocks at Caulfeild Cove. A teenager told police she spotted the body of a woman at ap- proximately 3 p.in. Saturday. She described the body as having black hair and only one leg. But the police search revealed no body. Police are linking the sighting to the gruesome finding of a severed human thigh discovered in Vancouver's Grandview Park Aug. 2. A park caretaker found the thigh ina plastic bag. Train kills tourist A SASKATCHEWAN tourist is dead after being hit by a BC Rail speeder Sunday afternoon at Porteau Cove. Keith Hornseth, 62, was struck 200 yards north of the north Porteau Cove railway switch when he stepped into the path of the speeder while taking photographs. BC Rail spokesman Barrie Wall said (he man was observed by the patrolman driving the oncoming speeder to be standing ap- proximately 10 feet from the track, When the speeder was only 15 feet from the man, he stepped on- to the track. The driver applied the brakes, but skidded into Horn- seth. The speeder derailed on impact. The patrolman was in shock, but uninjured. Hornseth was on foliday with friends from B.C. He was taken to Lions Gate Hospital where he died. Woman raped and beaten SQUAMISH POLICE are searching for a man who raped and beat a woman over the weekend at Porteau Cove. The victim was picked up by the assailant in Vancouver and driven to the cove, where she was forcibly confined, sexually assaulted, severely beaten and left in a bush area between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m, Aug. 5.. The suspect is described as approximately 40 years old, 170 pounds, with blond hair and a moustache. The assailant was wear- ing biue jeans and no shirt. He received scratches to his face during the attack, He was driving a blue 1973 Buick with a black interior.
