Robert Anthony Bogdanich, 20, of Coquitlam; Randall Graham Hedberg, 26, of Chilliwack; Grant Allan Willis, 24, of Vancouver; Shirley Dobay, 47, and Martin Maxwell ‘Sonny’ Dobay, 54, both of North Vancouver, were charged following police raids Tuesday on residences and businesses in North Vancouver and Coquitlam. Robert John Harrison, 29, of no fixed address; and Justino Pace, also 29, of Burnaby, are charged jointly with the other five, but are currently serving four-year jail terms in California after pleading guilty to cocaine possession charges. Tuesday's raids were carried out by members of the Co-ordinated Law Enforcement Unit (CLEU) following a year-long investigation by CLEU, the United States Customs department and the Ven- tura, California police department into incidents alleged to have oc- curred from May 8 to June 12 in which negotiations to import co- caine from the United States into Canada were alleged to have been made. CLEU Cpl. Bob Hunter said, Thursday, Harrison and Pace were arrested June Il in Ventura, California with approximately one pound of cocaine, worth an estimated $75,000. The wvo subsequently pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and were each sentenced to four years in jail. Hunter said paper evidence, but no drugs, was seized in Tuesday’s raids on the Crab Shop, 2464 Dollarton Highway, the Dobays’ Dollarton Highway residence and Bogdanich’s Coquitlam residence. Preliminary statements of evidence given Tuesday in court by the Crown allege that a $7,000 down payment for the cocaine had been wired to Harrison and Pace in California by the other accused co-conspirators, The Dobays own the Crab Shop, which was operated in its original 2817 Dollarton Highway location by the Dobay family for 35 years. The shop was moved to its present location after the original Crab Shop was demolished last year to make way for a 24-lot residential development. Hunter said paper evidence, but no drugs, was seized in Tuesday’s raids on the Crab Shop Hedberg, Shirley Dobay’s son, also faces charges of conspiracy to traffic in marijuana in Chilliwack and Surrey in connection with police seizures of approximately 24 pounds of the drug. Following court appearances Tuesday before Judge J.D. Layton, Bogdanich and Hedberg were released on $5,000 sureties, while the Dobays and Willis were released without deposit on $5,000 sureties.
