PAGE 46 er captures London SEVEN WEEKS in London, England shooting pictures without any limitations is how West Vancouver artist and photographer Jay Kent spent the summer of "85. His work, a series of manipu- lated Polaraid photographs entitl- ed London Color, will be shown for four days at the Lonsdale Clock and Gift Shop, Thursday, Nov. 27 to Sunday, Nov. 30. This is the first time this show has been displayed in Vancouver, and is an extension of Kent’s Ur- ban Color Series. Urban Color, taken in the fall of ‘84, was done on assignment for Polaroid, and depicted images of Canada taken in [1 cities. It was shown in Toronto and Halifax. Kent's first photography show was at the Clock Shop four years ago. At that time his photographs involved the same technique, but a different subject. He uses a Polaroid SX-70, and in the processing stage he manipu- lates the image while the emulsion is in an unstable state. The result, he said, is a photograph with a hand-painted look. “The thing about my work is that it is all original. Only one print of each can be made. There's no negative. Afterwards he went to Europe and spent {1% years in Switzerland and four months in England. Kent said he went there with a ” free case of Polaroid film from the company, and the freedom to shoot what he wanted without any rules. He jis a seJf-taught photographer, whose work has appeared in Vancouver Magazine, Western Living and Westin Hotel Magazine. Other exhibits that Kent has been involved in include a group show at Presentation House, a solo show at West End Community Centre, two solo shows at Van- couver restaurants and a show ata Vancouver gift shop. The Lonsdale Clock and Gift Shop is located at Number 5 Lonsdale Avenue.
