“sr ~ B14 - Wedmesday, June 22, 1983 - North Shore News A computerized Reserved Parking System has been launched in time for the B.C. Place Stadium. Stadium General Manager, Harry Renaud, is confident the new system will ensure that the 60,000- B.C. Lions par seat stadium will open with sufficient parking spaces available. “To the best of my knowledge there isn't another system like it in North America. “We are delighted to have ...LET’SGO SURF SAILING 2x4-8' 2.68EA 2x4-10' 3.35 EA 2x4-12’ 4.02 EA 5”x6"*8'6" 7.95 EACH 2x6-8' 4.28c:A 2x6-10' 5.35£a 2x6-12'6.42Ea LANDSCAPE TIES Wolmanized Pressure-Treated Lumber SUPREME CENTRE BUILDING SUPPLIES LTD. 125 RIVERSIDE DRIVE NORTH VANCOUVER 929-4111 SUPREME CENTRE — FIRST CHOICE FOR FENCING ano DECKING .40 PRESSURE TREATED CEDARTONE LUMBER GUARANTEED FOR 30 YEARS received the support of five of the major parking operators in the downtown — Imperial Parking, Metro, Citipark, Canpark and DPC -- for this innovative com- puterized parking system,” Renaud said. Under the scheme, stadium patrons wil be able to purchase reserved parking when they buy their event tickets. The new system will be operated by the Van- couver Ticket Centre and Central Box Office using their 18 computer outlets in the Lower ‘Mainland to guarantee a parking space handy to the new stadium. “This will mean that on most event nights there will be almost 12,000 parking spaces available for stadium fans and that should over- come what some people per- ceived as our ‘biggest headache.” “It will now be possible to guarantee a parking spot when you buy your stadium tickets and this will cut down a great deal of needless traf- fic searching for spaces close to the new building,” Renaud said. The basic fee will be $3.50, of which 50 goes to VTC-CBO. Premium park- ing spaces closest to the stadium will cost more, while stalls more than 1,000 metres away will cost $2.50. VTC-CBO outlets will have maps showing available parking spaces and prices, or TO THE IN 83! 1x6-5’ S1S2E 1.21 €a 1x6-6' S1S2E 1.56Ea 4x4-8' S4S SELECT CEDAR FENCING 1x6-5' S1S2E 1.19 ca 1x6-6' S1S2E 1.39 Ea GOOD LUCK B.C. The new scheme has divided all available parking within a few blocks of the stadium into four zones. Depending on stadium atten- dance, only the closest zones will be used. The system has the capacity to meet all re- quirements of stadium- destined vehicles, even for a sell-out crowd of 60,000. Season ticket holders for the B.C. Lions and Van- couver Whitecaps will be ac- commodated by the Reserv- ed Parking System as well as casual stadium patrons without jeopardizing downtown parking for non- stadium users, according to Renaud. Special provision has been made for handicapped park- ing under the computer system and a reserved lot will be available adjacent to one of the stadium en- trances. Under the new scheme, B.C. Place guarantees pay- ment for all spaces sold by VTC-CBO whether they are eventually used or not. The parking lot operators in turn, will reserve special stadium spaces, guarantee the delivery of spaces sold through the new system, and show common _ Reserved Parking System signs during stadium events. Renaud said B.C. Place is “very much a pioneer” in the reserved parking system and he paid tribute to the downtown parking lot operators who have given their support. “Without the co-operation and willingness of downtown parking operators to join us, I am sure parking would have been much more dif- ficult,” he said. “It has to be remembered that nearly half of the ex- isting parking spaces within a reasonable walk of the stadium are not used at night, even on the busiest of nights. “Now the parking lot operators have agreed to turn most of this excess capacity over to the Reserv- ed Parking System for the use of stadium fans,” Renaud said. B.C. Place its co- ordinating and developing the new system and also will manage over 2,000 parking spaces the crown corportion has agreed to provide adja- cent to the stadium. The computer parking system will be reviewed in August after it has been given atrial for several weeks of B.C. Lions, Whitecaps and other events.
