Big soccer
club merger
announced

UNITED THEY'LL stand in
the fall is the new tune three
North Shore soccer clubs are

singing.

The Burdett, Capilano
Thunderbirds and Viking
clubs announced their
merger Monday night into a
new North Van _ United
Soccer Club.

The combined experience
of all the clubs totals 100
years, a fact which will stand
the new club in good stead.

According to Burdett
president Wait Perri, the
goals of the new club will be
to provide soccer for players
of all levels, provide
competent coaching
(developed through
coaching seminars in-
structed by Jim Easton and
his staff), promote positive
input from club members,
and highlight the
development of youth and
senior referees.

He said the club also
intends to provide soccer for
graduating players at in-
termediate and senior levels,
and organize tournaments.

The metger came about as
a result of declining numbers
of eligible players in each of
the original's clubs areas. In
the Burdett area alone, three
schools are being closed this
year due to lack = of
enrollment.
