Basketball 1s big on the
North Shore. And its not
only at the high school level
where Arpyle Pipers have
been ranked as number one
in B.C. with West Van
Highlanders not far behind.

Its also bip at the
elementary school level,
which is probably why the
sport excels in the secondary
schools.

One of the major reasons
for the populanty of the

sport is due to the North
Shore Super Basketball
Cinics for elementary
players sponsored by the
Father John Kilty) Foun-
dation.

The foundaton provides
funds to estabhsh choics for
all aspects of basketball and

includes some of the top
coaches from the North
Shore.

More than 270 youngsters
were recently involved at
four locatons for a three

weekend seminar receiving
basketball ups from Bob
Mohaski, the coach of
Argyle Pipers, Phil Langley
and Erme Ocl of Windsor,
Vern Porter of Carson
Graham, Ed Pedersen and
Dave Pearce of Handsworth,
Rich Chamber of Centennial
and Ralph Wallace formerly
from Hillside.

Also helping out was Dan
Miscisco, the instructiona!
coordinator for the program
who ts also an author of an
instrucuional text andthe
man who for 12 years has
enthusiastically run the all-
star basketball camps.

Apart from the knowledge
and fun picked up by the
youngsters, the big news
from the camps was that a
full scale inter-scholasuc
basketball league for
elementary students will be
underway next school year

with financing from the
Father John Kilty) Foun-
dation.

These term deposits will promde a high yield short term investment
(Annualized yields are 15.83% and 14 81%)
