WELFARE allowance cutbacks, soaring rents and daycare lineups are offering welfare fu ilies on the North Shore little to look forward to and are setting a pattern as 1982 being the year of the squeeze. One complaint is that while single parents on welfare are having their assistance cut back in an effort to weed out em- ployables they're also being discouraged from finding work by lack of day care. Single parents on welfare with a child over six months can now be classed as “employable”, undergoing a reduction in benefits up to $55 a month. But at the same time there are 500 parents waiting in line for North Shore day care centres, accordia, to recent estimates, and day care rates are going up.
