RIVERSIDE DRIVE esi By CHRIS LLOYD ent see RIVERSIDE DRIVE resident Greta Avefjall wants to appear before North Vancouver District council to tell aldermen about her fears of a landslide hitting her home. Her home at 1780 Riverside is immediately below an excavation site on the steep, sandy hill where her neighbor is cutting in a driveway leading to the~™ house at 1788 which looms above her property. Since the excavation work began, her 24 ft. swimming pool has burst open and one of the last trees remaining in her yard since a pervious slide above her property has been uprooted. In spite of assurances from District's Chief Building Inspector Ed Carr that she is “unduly distressed”, Mrs. Avefjall is convinced the damage is the result of thé excavating work, even though Carr insists there is nothing to link the two occurrences. She is so concerned about Carr's intention to grant a building permit for work there on the strength of soil test results that she wants District council to step in. Pork chops a warning to wives! Supreme Court when the work on the driveway caused a landslide which tore out 14 trees in her yard. The neighbors were or- dered to replace the trees but didn’t. Although they fulfilled a condition of the court order by building a retaining wall to hold back material from sliding onto Mrs. Avefjall’s property, chief building inspector Carr says he doesn’t think the wall would have any effect in a landslide anyway.
