And 72-hour strike notice has been issued to 144 hospitals and health care anits across B.C., including LGH. Narses will be in a legal strike position Sunday. Union officials have said the Health Labor Relations Association of B.C. has made a 0 per cent wage offer. Bat HLRA president Gordon Austin bas said the asscciation will make ‘‘a meaningful wage offer at a more appropriate stage in the collective bargaining process."’ LGH president Robert Smith said the hospital bas prepared a contingency plan in the event of a nurses’ strike, “‘but the problem is knowing what form the strike will take.”’ He said LGH staff is committed to patient safety and care, ‘‘and ‘Tam confident that won't be compromised.” An estimated 14,210 nurses, or 31 per cent, cast ballots in Wed- nesday’s vote. LGH employs 832 nurses. Negotiations between the HLRA and the BCNU are scheduled next week. Steroid trafficking | charges dropped A CHANGE of trafficking in illicit anabolic steroids was dropped Thursday in North Vancouver provincial court against a 29-year- old Burnaby man after the substances seized proved not to be steroids.’ Nicolzngelo Luigi Lucarino was originally arrested Feb. 15 and charged with trafficking in a Schedule F drug as defined under the Foud and Drug Act, fotlowing a combined investigation by North Vancouver 2nd Burnaby RCMP drug squads that resulted in a seizure of suspected steroids worth an estimated $100,000 on the black marke!. ‘The bust was considered the largest seizure of suspected steroids in Canadian history. But the charge was dropged against Lucarino prior to Thurs- day’s scheduled preliminary hearing into the charge. North Vancouver RCMP drug section head Sgt. Fishing boat capsizes CANADIAN COAST Guard cutter Osprey was called in to rescue three crew members of a 42-foot fishing boat after it capsized in waters half a mile west of the Lions Gate Bridge Friday afterncon. The coast guard responded to the call at 12:15 p.m. and was on scene eight minutes later. The three crew members of the fishing boat Ulf were plucked from the water. The capsized boat was tow- ed to Vancouver Shipyards by Seaspan tug Rival. Investig.stion into the cause of the capsize continues. The boat was carrying an estimated 600 gallons of diesel fuel on board when Wt turned over.
