INDUSTRY WORKING WIE THe COMMUNITY West Van District is the most affluent in Canada ONE HUNDRED years ago, there were no divisions between the three North Shore muncipalities: all were encompassed by North Vancouver District, which was in- corporated on Aug. 10, 1891. Today, the North Shore in- cludes three municipalities that are distinct in character as well as in- corporation. The following are current statistics on North Van- couver District, North Vancouver City, and the District of West Vancouver. The bulk of North Vancouver City’s population of 36,947 peo- ple, at 48.5%, is composed of 20 to 35 year olds. The average in- come for City-dwelling males, ac- cording to the 1986 Census, is $22,333; for females, $14,216. Seven and a half of the popula- tion are university graduates. The city has 17,175 private dwellings within its 1,276 hectares. 46.6% of North Vancouver District's 69,700 residents are be- tween the ages of 25 and 54, and 17.6 of the population are univer- sity graduates. The average male income is $32,325; the average female in- come is $15,116. The District has 24,400 dwellings within its 67.3 square-mile radius. The District of West Vancouver is the most affluent municipality in Canada with an average income of $71,946, 52% of its population of 37,997 are over the age of 35. Within West Vancouver’s 89.09 square kilometres are 14,990 dwelling units.
