Mahood battles heat at Westwood

drivers had a tough time figuring
out the hot and greasy track.

Mahood had qualified eight of
the 26 entrants but was to experi-
ence tire wear problems for most
of the main event.

“It wasn’t the easiest race to-
day, a lot of guys were burning up
in the heat. We were all just
fighting to keep on the track,’’
said a fatigued Mahood later.

Indeed few were the drivers who
could keep their cars on the race

Mahood was one of many slipping
off the treacherous Westwood
hairpin in a cloud of dust.

The Mahood Formula Racing
team remains in fifth place overall
in the championship standings but
now sports the slimmest of
margins over a crowd of con-
tendezs.

In other news Mahood's spare
car saw its first action of 1990
when piloted by West Vancouver
rookie driver Hideki Maeda.
Maeda showed well in the heat of
his first competition finishing
ahead of seven series regulars and
keeping his car out of trouble al)
day.

Finally, Mahood Formula Rac-
ing has now become the official
race team of AM rock station
Rock 1040. Skip Hudson, general
