Collins is a master
of distorting truth

Dear Editor:

Doug Collins should apply for a
position at the Soviet Disinform-
tion Centre in Moscow because he
is a master at distorting the truth.

In his column about Paul
Findley’s book They Dare To
Speak Out (Sunday, June 29) he
misinforms his readers concerning
the ‘Jewish lobby”’ in the United
States.

Ex-congressman Findley’s book
sets forth at length a conspiracy
theory that the Jews control the
media, the congress, and even the
administration.

What Collins and Findley both
miss completely is the simple fact
that America’s pro-Israel policy
reflects the American people's view
that being pro-Israel is in the best
interest of the United States.

This is shown in poll after poll,
congress after congress, ad-
ministration after administration.
This also explains Findley’s defeat
in the November 1982 election tor
cong:essman.

Mr. Findley alleges that his
views have been suppressed, but in
fact they have been aired and re-
Jected, because they are out of the
Aymerican mainstream.

It is important to note what
Findley left out of his book. He

devotes minimal attention to the
Arab lobby, the fact that it is
funded by Arab countries and
multi-national corporations and
the fact that ii has spent exorbitant
amounts of money on anti-Israel
advertisements published in major
newspapers throughout the coun-
try

He also leaves out the fact that
Israel is critized daily by the media
as was evidenced during the war in
Lebanon in 1982.

The real issue that Paul
Findley’s book raises therefore, is
not concerning intimidation of
Israel’s critics, which does not ex-
ist, but why Paul Findley sees fit to
write a rather lengthy book with a
thesis which is demonstrably false.

The only answer I can come up
with is that a long time ago he
took up the Arab cause, more
specifically the ciu: of .e PLO,
in the U.S. conzress — ‘t never suc-
ceeded ir croviv.cing cither the
congress or the American people
of his point of view.

That should hardly be surprising
considering the fact that the PLO
is the leader of international ter-
rorism, is hostile to the U.S. and
close to the Soviets, and the fact
that Israel is America’s sole reli-
able ally in the Middle East, the
