Asa long-time hiker, I have
become increasingly alarmed
and distressed recently by
damage to trails from moun-
tain bikes. Many of these
were created by volunteers
from outdoor clubs, while
the Baden-Powell Trail was,
as older readers will

remember, built by the Boy
Scouts.

A number of these routes
are now under serious threat
with the Mount Seymour
section of the B-P Trail
showing considerable dam-

age; great ruts, stones
dislodged, and borders
weakened. Another long-

established approach to the
