The first incident, on January 30, resulted in a search of the harbor area by the Coast Guard cutter Osprey and Lifeboat Number Five of the B.C. Lifeboat Society. The two boats spent 90 minutes on the search without turning up anything. A week later, at roughly the same time of night, the second flare went up and the second search begun. As well as the Osprey and Lifcboat Number Five, the Bowen Island water taxi Bowen Ar- row was also involved in the search that extended from - Dundarave to Fisherman’s Cove and from Point Atkin- son to Point Grey. The search ended after two and one half hours withouc any sign of a vehicle in distress. The two costly searches brought West Van Police in- to the picture this «veek.
