DEAR EDITOR Ozone layer threatened by L. Valley development Dear Editor: I read with interest your first edition of Lynn Valley Echo. As | grew up in Lynn Valley from 1933 to 1942, there were several items that were of special interest to me. However, the article on page 3, regarding Tempe Heights left me very discouraged. It is hard for me to believe how in the 1980s, coun- cil could give the go-ahead for such a rape of the earth. Surely the general public, let alone the coun- cil responsible, must be informed to some extent on the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and how we desperately need the oxygen that comes from our trees. The comments made in your paper’s article, ‘‘The new land- scaping would not take too long to bring the green back” and ‘‘people have better things to do than slave away in their gardens,’’ were ob- viously made by people who did not read the front page of the Vancouver Sun, Aug. 20, 1988, The Big Heat on the World Green House Effect. Drive defensively Dear Editor: A tip: drive defensively and don’t trust approaching vehicles’ turn signals at unmarked intersec- tions. I saved a biker's life the other day — he was nearly embedded in the side of my car. He had ne- giected to turn off his turn signal, and drove right through the in- tersection as I was about to turn. Thank goodness | waited! I told him of his turn signal and he swore and fingered me. As I parked my car in the front of my house, he stopped and threw a rock at my passenger door, leav- ing a dent and missing me by in- ches. I was in too much shock to get his licence number. This kind of behavior gives bikers a bad name, but this coward would be the same on a bike or in a car. His actions were incx- cusable. P.
