A20 - Wednesday, November 9, 1983 - North Shore News Cuts will hurt LIFE WILL be difficult for the 1984 North Vancouver City council because of a ten per cent cut in the provincial revenue sharing grant, Tetiring alderman Gary Payne said Monday. Payne, who is not seeking re-election, and so won’t be a part of next year’s council, said the grant will be cut by $200,000 to $300,000. ‘“*‘The 1984 council will have a difficult time with that kind of cut,’” he said. Mayor Jack Loucks admitted the cut will hurt the City, but he said that North Vancouver is getting off lucky compared to some municipalities because the revenue sharing grant is not a large part of the City’s budget. The provincial grant makes up 13 to 14 per cent of the city’s budget, but in some municipalities comprises 25 to 30 per cent, the mayor said. Ald. Stella Jo Dean said the cut wasn’t unexpected and that the City has made plans for such a cut in the 1984 budget.
