Off-leash dogs kill

Our daughter was crying when she saw me pick up Norton

We live in Norgate and have always been dog lovers even
though we own two beautiful cats that our three-year-old
daughter considers part of our family.

During the summer while I was sitting through another
Barney video with my, daughter our next door neighbour
knocked on the front door visibly distressed and wanting me
to step outside away from our little girl.

She said our cat had been mauled by two dogs not on
Seashes in her front yard and was under her van. She had seen
a native woman with her two kids and two dogs walking
along the strect and her dogs attacked our cat as he was lying
in the sun.

She ran to the lady yelling at her to call her dogs off and
her response was “it’s only natural: dogs chase cats.”

After the dogs tossed our cat around like a rag-doll she
screasned again at the lady, who said, “Don’t worry, the cat
will be OK” and walked away.

When I came outside U could see her walking fast down the
strect towards the reservation. While bending down under
the car to comfort our cat who was conscious and in shock I
could see another dog runaing up to the van with the owner's
feet following him.

his stomach had been torn open and his injuries were so
severe I had to ask them to put him out of his misery.

I cailed the RCMP to see what recourse we had as we
know where the dogs live.

The RCMP say the SPCA could fine her $50 for the dogs

_ being off-leash but because they are on 2 reservation the no-.

leash laws do not apply even though our cat was killed in our
front yard and we would have little luck.

There are three dogs that roam freely through our neigh-
bourhood plus other dogs off leashes walking down the street
with owners following them. I guess we should be grateful
our daughter was not the victim of an attack, but it is small
comfort.
