atre work, Ferguson’s War of
the Worlds makes its debut
this evening at the
Roundhouse Community
Centre in Vancouver's
Yaletown district. The multi-
media presentation explores
the making of the radio event
that rocked America.
Ferguson reinvented the
cast ‘of characters behind the
historic broadcast. “Welles
himself never let the facts get
in the way of 2 good story,”
says the playwright. “Like
him, I don’t have a respect for
the official versions of things.”
In Ferguson’s version of
things, it was Welles’ typist,
the fictitious Sylvia Breach,
who decided to present as a
news broadcast the radio
adaptation of H. G. Wells’
stozy of an alien invasion,
panicking the listening pub-
lic. The prank foreshadowed
saciety’s loss of faith in the
