Becker News Editor HILLSIDE middle school is coming down, but Kim and Eleanore Elton have scooped up a prime piece of the school and it’s found a home in their family rec room on Bowen Island. Eleanore was recently driving by the site and saw the wrecking crew hard at it. The wall bearing the school’s name was still standing. A polite inquiry was made and the letters were hers to have as a keepsake. The couple met at Hillside 28 years ago. Said Kim Elton, “We had some fun. To be hon- est school wasn’t that big a part of my life, but she (Eleanore) was. We met in Spanish class. We both failed Spanish in Grade 11. He came to Hillside late after moving to West Vancouver from Alberta. “It was a pretry neat building. Ir had g views which were kind of distracting,” he said. We got some motorcycles and hiked them up the stairs to the third level, which is where the office was, and drove down the hall past the principal’s office. “My buddy got into a bit of trouble for that. The other guys put their visors down so nobody could really identify them. That was kind of fun,” Elton said. Kim and Eleanore’s three sons Justin, Christian and Aaron were also educated at the school. “Justin, my oldest son, and Christian went through. Aaron only went for half'a year. He’s now at the new school (Rockridge),” he said. Hillside falls to make possible the new Rockridge school in West Vancouver.
