Canadian and First Nations communities are also. —- working with the corpora- tion to have its concems on road “Board mem- bers represent a variety of impor- tant —_ interests from a cross sec- tion of the Chinese community in the Lower Mainland,” said Kenneth Tim Fung. Fung is the Chinese board’s first chairman and president of the B.C. ‘College of Professional Driver Trainers Association. He said the board's objectives are * broad and that it is in place to “pro- vide advice and assistance on pro- grams, plans and communications that affect the Chinese community and to consult with ICBC in devel- oping road safety and other initia- tives sensitive to the growing 66 The Indo- Canadian community has also become safety put for involved with ICBC by “o3! producing a Road Sense video... 99 Chinese community.” ICBC spokesman Brian Geary said the corporation is not trying to “put a box around any particular community and sugyest that thetr particular road safety concerns war- rant special attention. The idea is to draw upon the existing knowledge and community connections to help both ICBC and the community address safety and any other ICBC related issues.” Fung noted that an important part of the — plan includes promot- ing road safety to new immigrants and insuring non- English speaking members of the community understand ICBC's road safety message. Indo- Canadian com- munity has also become invoived with ICBC by . producing a Road Sense video about the proper use of child safety seats in vehicles. Vancouver Health Department Multicultural Officer Guninder Mumick said the video was pro- duced in both English and Punjabi.
