J Improper electrical wiring: A significant number (19.9%) chose this item as the most com- mon home defect. which includes such situations as insufficient elec- trical service to the house, inade- quate overload pro- tection and amateur, unsafe wiring. Roof damage: 66 . Although reported by only 8.5% of the respondents as the most comrnon prob- lem, roof leakage, caused by old or damaged shingles or improper flashing, was considered by CAHI members to be 2 frequent problem. & Heating systems: Problems in this category include broken or malfunctioning operation controls, blocked chim- neys and unsafe exhaust disposal.
