Ram pick-up
Full-size hauler packs big V10 punch

FIFTH-WHEELERS AND trailer-towers will
be happy to know that a powerful V10 engine is
now available in the Dodge Ram pickup and the
new extended-cab Ram pickup.

The V10 ts currently the most powertul engine

empty your wallet. At current prices, a tank of regular
gas sets you back about $80.

Fuel consumption figures were not available, but
Chrysler claims the V10 is more fuel-efficient than
Ford's 7.5-litre V8 and Chevy's 7.4-litre V8 engines —
which isn’t really saying much.

However. when it comes to trailer-towing and heavy
duty commercial use. power is something that can’t be
compromised, and poor fuel consumption is the price
paid for getting there.

Unlike rumbling V8 engines and clattering diesel
engines, the Ruin V10 is comparatively quict. It idles
with litde vibration or noise, and accelerates ina
smooth, civilized fashion. At 100 km-h (62 m.p.b.) on
the freeway, the engine barely turns over 1,700 rpm. If

available in a full-
horsepower at 4,000
2,400 rpm.
Equipped with the V10 engine. the Dodge Ram -
2500HD 4X4 pickup (this weck’s test vehicle) will tow
up to 6,169 kg (13,600 Ibs) and a haul a payload of up
to 1,288 kg (2,840 !bs). For serious haulers, a heavy-
duty Ram 3500 2WD pickup with dual rear wheels will
carry a payload of up to 2,306 kg (5.085 Ibs).
Fortunately, the V10 uses regular unleaded gasoline.
