Port dispute A DIFFERENCE of 25 cents proved the stumbling block for mediation efforts in the longshoremen‘s strike. Talks broke off Thursday when, according to Maritime Employers’ Association president Bob Wilds, the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen'’s Union rejected a proposed settlement which the employ- ers’ association was prepared to accept. The proposed settlement contained raises of 65 cents an hour in each of three years, but the union held out for 75 cents in each of the first two years plus an extra five cents in benefits. No union spokesperson was available for comment to press time.
