Elvis and “Elvis
Lives Lane”

IT’S OFFICIAL. We now have Canada’s own “Elvis Lives

Lane,’’ behind Ottawa’s
west end.

Imagine, if you will, ‘Bryan
Adams Avenue’ or ‘“‘k.d. lang
Street.”’, Not likely. Not here,
anyway. Definitely alive, and, too
Canadian. Since when do we
honor our own like that?

{ knew Elvis. Early °60s. 1 was
a young Hollywood actor, Ford
Dunhill.

We had a girlfriend, Dottie
Harmony, in common and | was
under contract at Fox, with a
small role in MGM’s “Viva Las
Vegas.””

He, was Capricorn (ambitious)
with a midheaven Neptune (like
Frank Sinatra) and Jupiter rising
(expansive) in sexy Scorpio
(animal magnetism).

Elvis didn’t like the movies he
was making. He would wince and
shake his head. in utter disbelief
over what “they’’ were having
him do next.

Great sense of humor. Both he
and his entourage practically
laughed me off the set when 1
earnestly suggested that he record
a version of ‘‘Dem bones.”

Well, I thought his rendition
would have been great. We may
never know, but on the other
hand, since he still lives...

He knew that, had he been
‘*handled’’ differently, he might
have been able to study and

become a serious actor, a ia.

and raw talent. Under the direc-
tion of an Elia Kazan, he would
have demonstrated that ability.
