Into these aimless lives comes a
music teacher, Jack Cabe John
Travolta). He whips them into
shape as a band for the July 4th
gala, but secretly coaches them in
rock'n'roll. ‘

He tells them about an elusive
late night D.j. called The Midnight.
Rider who spins “‘real under-
ground rock‘n’roll.’* So they
scrounge parts for a shortwave

-radio, instantly finding the

mysterious voice and, hey, these
boys are closet Einsteins, manag-
ing to cross the barriers of time
and space and pull in Robbie
Robertson, circa 1987, Neat trick,
guys.

Things get pretty silly after that.
Will the boys play rock'n'roll at
the Independence Day shindig?
Will Cabe’s secret past reveal
itself? Will Tucker and Sara have
unprotected sex? Far be it for me
to even hint that this ludicrously
cliched film would be so predict-
able. :
