18 - Wednesday, January 6, 1988 - North Shore News FINANCIAL NEWS SEMINAR BOY, DO we need advice about money these days! What with stock market up- heavals, new tax rules, the annual RRSP cush and a bewildering. ar- ray of financial products and ser- vices, a single piece of sound ad- vice could save or make you hun- dreds — even thousands — of dollars. So I am really pleased the North Shore News has decided to sponsor a Financial News Seminar starting at 7 p.m. on Monday Jan. 18 at the Centennial Theatre, 23rd and Lonsdale (see page 3 for details). You can expect good valuc for your money (save by getting your tickets from the North Shore News in advance —- $5 a person, $8 a coupie): eit put on a 45-minute slide- show, and promise to live up to my billing, as one wag put it, of being able “to both manage a million and pinch a penny.”’ I’fl have upbeat advice on saving, investing, borrowing — and spending. dollars and sense by Mike Grenby *The Certified General’ Ac- countants’ Association of B.C. will . be giving away free ‘copies of its '56-page booklet, - Strategic’ ‘Tax Planning, and will answer income - tax questions. _ °.© Copies of my $6.95 Tax Tips book will: be. awarded . as door prizes. . ¢ CGAs will, provide a free in- dividualized retirement : projection to show how: much income your - RRSP . contributions’ will produce after you retire,-in today’s dollars. © Representatives of several fi- nancial institutions will be at the - Centennial Theatre to. explain the products and services they offer. This gives you a chance to shop. around quickly and easily, and ask - questions of those who have the answers. I’m: particularly: pleased to be involved . with this North’ Shore . News presentation, because I was one of three local people who started the idea of having a regular - money showin Canada -- a con- cept which. also has been copied abroad. - Together with Jim Rogers, of The James E. Rogers Group, and Duart Campbell, of Yorkshire Trust, I helped start the process which led to the first show in Yan- couver in 1981. It focussed on RRSPs. People found it really helpful to have financial institutions. exhibit their services and products in one place, all at the same time. In particular, those who attend- ed praise the seminars presented as part of the show for providing ob- jective information to help them re nan ever manage their moncy morc effec- tively — and more comfortably. The concept quickly spread to major centres across Canada. To- day, the moncy flow in Montreal, for example, attracts some 75,000 people each year. A moncy show was even held in London, England, with full credit for the idea being given to the Ca- nadian money shows on which it was modelled. Our evening Financial News Seminar will help you learn about getting more from your money, whether you have trouble making ends meet or you need advice on your investments. If you have questions about your personal finances, write them down between now and Jan. 18. Then bring them to the seminar. PH be pleased to meet with you either before or after my pres- entation. Both the CGAs and the financial institution representatives will also answer your questions. Ideally, you should try to talk to several of us. Then draw from our replies what makes the most sense ~— and doilars! There is no one ‘‘right'’’ way to manage your moncy. So you must learn about the options, then choose the ones that feel right for you.
