Mel Browning was the game's winning pitcher in relief. In other league action, the Eagles racked up three more wins after downing Eyford 11-5 and 11-6 and savaging Legion 10-1. On May 21, Skyline edged Legion 7-6 behind the pitching of Sean Cameron, Mark Andrew led the Jason Travers, with two hits, and Scott Gilley, with three hits, led the Eyford offence. But the Eagles rebounded to defeat Skyline 3-2 in other action. David Earland threw a two-hitter in the win, Mike Earland and Jessie Collins had two hits each to lead the Eagles. Mike Earland, the twin brother of David, made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch in centre field from his short-stop position to preserve the win. Chena swimmers make waves CHENA SWIM Club swimmers landed 41 final placings in the recent Hyack National Age Group Invitational. Chena sent a reduced team to New Westminster to compete against 400 other athletes, but managed to land 41 final placings over the three-day event, With one third being medal swims, and many personal best times registered, the Hyack meet, held over the May long weekend, was a worthwhile one for the local club. . Swimming for Chena were Marek Hedjuk, Adam Fallis, David Skinner, Romin Gerela, Vaughn Thomson, Craig Curley, Catherine Schier, Michelle Woods, Tracey Meaham, Rob Price and Andrew Urschitz. Measham and Price registered two new national youth tiraes. winners with two hits. Skyline defeated Eagles 8-0 the same day behind the one-hit pitching of Steve Hatch and Jason Odegard. Hatch also had three hits for the winners. On May 24, Eyford defeated Legion 5-1. Pitcher Paul Edgett recorded the win. . The club also competed in the big Esso International Swim Meet held recently at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. Representing Chena at the meet were Suzy Stanton and Lisa Woods. . Teams from all over the world, including Czechoslovakia, China, Italy, Australia, France and Scotland, competed in the annual event.
