Colin Kelly, president of local one of the Independent Canadian Transit Union, an- nounced Friday that bus drivers will let passengers ride for 25 cents starting Monday, if they promise to pay the re- maining 50 cents of the fare to Metro Transit once the dispute between the umon and the company 1s settled. The announcement ts the latest move in the umon’s battle to win a new contract with the company, which operates buses in North Van- couver and most other areas of Greater Vancouver Kelly said the plan to allow riders to board the bus for a quarter 1s aimed at putting pressure on the company without disurpting bus service A proposal to let bus users ride free was rejected. Kelly said, because that would have been illegal. The unton has been without a contract since March, 1983, and claims the company is not interested in serious negotiations.
