And when they come calling, one can be assured that they'll be eyeing local trees with the aim to either trim some branches or take the tree out all together. You might call them urban fog- gers. One of the biggest and more well-known tree care companies is the Tree People. The company ‘irs’ opened up shop in North Vancouver before moving to Bur- naby fast year. The company was initially started in 1954 by Owen Richards, who sold the business in 1969. Neil Wilson bought the business in 1977 and sold it last year to Unit- ed States-based Davey Tree Expert Company. He now runs Davey Tree’s B.C. west coast operations. Utility companies such as B.C. Hydro and B.C. Tel hire tree companies to trim tree branches or remove trees near utiliry lines. B.C. Hydro senior communica- tions coordinator Verne Prior says tree maintenance is an on-going project for the Crown corporation and that tree trimming is done on a cyclical basis.
