The woman, whose name and age were not released, was hiking on First Pump Peak during the noon hour with a group of three friends. During their descent of the steep southeast slope of First Pump Peak, she lost control, sipped 140 metres (460 ft.) and rumbled down, She came to a stop when she bit a clump of trees. A male companion calied 9-2-1 on his cell phone to seek help. The B.C. Ambulance Service then dispatched North Shore Rescue at 12:50 p.in. Nine NSR volunteers and a heli- copter chartered by the Provincial Emergency Program responded. Rescuers, who worked closely with Mount Seymour and B.C. Parks staff, reached the injured woman at 1:30 p.m. She was assessed ye scene, packaged for spinal injuries, placed into an aerial rescue platform stretcher and hoisted by helicopter to a staging area in the Seymour River Valley. She was transferred via helicopter to Vancouver General Hospital. NSR spokesman Tim Jones advis- es people in the backcountry to be aware of the hazards of traversing slippery or wet snow slopes. An ice axe or ski pole is recom- mended. Jones also says it may be wise to remove snowshoes in arcas where traction may be uncertain. Additionally, Jones said, thermal North Shore Rescue photo warming of the snowpack will NORTH Shore Rescue volunteers treat a increase the chance of an avalanche, woman who was injured in a fall at Mount especially on south-facing slopes. Seymour Frovincial Park Thursday. Pursuit leads to apartment Fram paged was running. At any rate, we ran across Lonsdale and continued westbound. The driv er, who had been wearing a black leather jacket and had a ponytail and dark hair, was rusning on the right, and the front seat passenger, who was weanng kind of a lighter-coloured grey top, was running on the left, had shorter hair. So they were running virtually beside each other, and the person I believed was the driver made what I perceived to be a deliberate motion with his right hand in front of him and began to turn. I yelled something to the effect that I would kill him. I believe by this time the report had come in of armed men. They had attempted to evade police. | perceived that they’d thrown the long object. J referred to it as about four feet long, believed they’d thrown a firearm out, so in my opinion I thought I was about to ger "shot, sol brought up my gun and shot at the driver, who was making this motion to me. As soo as J shot, the driver and the passen- ger immediately turned right and went through some hedges, so I approached the hedge and cautiously went through. I looked to my left and I could see that the person who'd been the front seat passenger was continuing to run west and was running very quickly re was no way I was going to catch ~ him, and I could see in front of me, which would be north for, well, a fairly considerable distance, enough to see that the driver couldn’t have gone that direction because I'd still be able to see him running, which left only to my nght for me to proceed, and to my right there was a continua- tion of the hedge line and an apartment building (at Lonsdale and 25ch Sareet), so there's a space 12, 15 feet approximately wide. ‘So T continued through there with my firearm out. So [ve now basically doubled back and I’m now going east, and more slowly to see where this person is, and the apartment building wall was straight and then went in, There was a corner, and as 1 peeked around the corner I saw this male standing right in the corner (alcove). Again, | brought my firearm up and pointed it at the male, and at the same time this male opened the door and went through the door at (2525 Lonsdale Ave.). I'm not sure why, (but) I thought when I would open the door for some reason there would be stairs going up. I don’t know why I thought that, but that’s what I thought. So I approached the door. I kicked it as hard as I could and it didn’t budge, so I opened the door by the door handle (and entered an apart- ment) and immediately a male started approach- ing me, and again I drew my firearm down on him and ordered him to the ground. He began yelling at me, “I live here. T live here, There’s Kids i in the apartment. He’s in the bathroom. He’s in the bathroom.” To be continued next Stnday. 08 OR REFUSAL CHARGE?
