Some years ago public . forums occurred to express proposals toward updating the First Narrows Crossing. I presented a paper to B.C. Transportation and Highways. The views given were totally free of biss which would other- wise have resulted from listen ing to the great international radiv station WII-FM. All fac- tors were considered; certain probably due again ro the bor- tom-line mitigation of overall factors. Widening the Stanley Park causeway and resurfacing was mentioned. Recently, however, a new idea, perhaps comfort- ing to all, regarding the cause- way, came to light. Note the front page article, North Shore News, Sept. 5, which suggests a catalyst/flux is sall needed, We are so programmed to believe that sidewalks must be at road edge. Really, they need only be where private property prevents otherwise. There is a pathway through the park on the west side of the causeway, which essentially paraliels it. It is pleasant to walk/cycle on. It can be embellished for this purpose. What? you say! More park? Well, the park is for such pur- obvious facts created answers. Following MoTH's receipt of the paper, I was asked to present the views by speaking at the Robson Media Centre on the paper. I did so. Decisions finalized and today being carried eut are an exact reflection of the paper, - Safety deteriorating for Lions Gate cyelists Dear Editor: 6... ; Two years ago I was the cyclist who was kicked from the - -sicewalk oy.a construction worker. .-- ~/ -* *" Alter two yeaxs and two court trials 1 am happy to say that it -- is behind me.
