Weddings, like fashion,
sway to the trends.

The revival of martinis and
lounge music has most certain-
ly influenced interest in cocktail
receptions.

Wedding fashions, roo,
come in and out of vogue. Slip
dresses, empire waistlines and
silk shantung ail walk the
European runways before
showing up at the alter. Brides
strive to emulate the classic
simplicity of a Caroline Bissett-
Kennedy one year, or the for-
mal clegance of Evita the next.

along roadsides, ditches, shorelines, and

soft purple veil. This exotic beauty

as it chokes the life out of wetlands
and waterways, destroying precious
wildlife habitat. The aggressive
invader is purple loosestrife.

Originally found in Europe and
Asia, purple loosestrife is a hardy
flowering plant that was acciden-
tally introduced to North America in
the 1800s. Because it has no natural
enemies, it is spreading at an alarming
rate throughout Canada.

Purple locsestrife has no nutritive
value for wildlife. And its shoreline colonies,
which stand one to two metres tall, threaten
young waterfowl by providing cover for preda-
tors on the prowl.
