Sports _ Bonspiel slides f& TWENTY curling rinks from the Lower Mainland and as far away as Seattle competed in the Junior Open Curling Bonspiel at the North Shore Winter Club November 30 and December 1 The Graeme Franklin rink from Tunnel Town won the “A” event as they slipped past Cloverdale’s Ross Graham rink. Burnaby finished third and the NSWC rink, skipped by Justyn Groinus, with Dean Roberts and Jeff and Mike Mayer, was fourth. The ‘“B" event was won by Colleen Hanna of Bur- naby. Cheryl Bruce of Co- quitlam finished in second. Joycelyn Molgat of Burnaby was third with the North Vanccuver Recreation Cen- tre rink of lan and Gordon Gray, Brian Burgot and Cam Cooper finishing fourth. The “C’ event finalists were all from the NSWC. Lou Ann Mendoza, Julie Vanderspek, Shari Jubenvil and Joanne Bergstrand defeated Gordon and Donald Tupper and Jeff and Topher Chute. Ron Mather of Holtyburn was third while David Striichuk of the NVRC finished fourth. North Shore swim meets with success THE North Shore Sports Club hosted their first an- nual swim meet December | at Ron Andrews Pool. The club is a non-profit volunteer organization offer- ing sports programs for mentally handicapped per- sons. North Vancouver District Ald. Steve McMinn officiai- ly opened the meet and wel- comed the 72 Lower Mainland athletes taking part. Al Wilson, [4-year B.C.
