fr During sub zero weather conditions,
warm moist air from inside the home escapes up
through the chimney to the outside. When the warm air
moves up the chimney, condensation takes place,
forming thick ice on the inside of the flue. When the
weather turns mild and rains, the ice melts, running
down into the firebox causing concerns about leaks. This
can be corrected by installing an inflatable draft stopper
in the firebox next to the damper control, stopping the
warm moist air from escaping up the chimney.
