MIDGET HOCKEY players help win conference NSWC LOCAL ICE hockey talent helped push the Greater Vancouver Conference 1! team to win the Canada Dry Midget Scholarship Tournament Sunday night at the Langley Civic Cen- tre. By ELIZABE COLLINGS News Reporter Using six players selected from the North Shore Winter Club, this All-Star team choked the Fraser Valley Conference 2 team 7-4 in the finals. Team manager Val Donovan said the North Shore forward line of Ryan Donovan, Kirk Hum- phries and Jeff Herman ac- counted for five of the seven goals scored that night by GVC1. The three also led in points garnered in the tournament. Also from the Winter Club on defence was Michael Payne, Cameron Wilson and Justin Henry. “The North Shore team was very effective contributing goals throughout the tournament,”’ Donovan added. North Shore players also found their way on the Greater Van- couver Conference 2 team with Greg Burrows, Craig Lindholm, Jamie Storey, Luke McCormick and Ian Lalonde coming from the North Vancouver-based Midas Muffler Midget AAA’s while forwards James Switzer and Scott Ivany were selected from West Vancouver. Shortmat is a new indoor adap- tation of lawn bowling, played on a 45'X6’, specially marked roll down carpet. Sixty-four teams competed in the weekend event.
