Carson students win awards STUDENTS AT Carson Graham Secondary School won major en- trance scholarships this year, in addition to the regular awards given out at graduation ceremo- nies. In all, over 7@ awards were pres- ented at the ceremony on Tuesday, June 27. Two categories deserve special attention. ‘The first comes under the umbrella of the North Van- couver schools, and Carson stu- _ dents were awarded 39 per cent of these awards. The second major accomplish- ment of Carson graduates is in the category of entrance scholarships, administered by the three main local post-secondary institutions. The winner of free tuition for one year at Capilano College is Kirsten Ames. From Simon Fraser University, Susan Biala won the Gordon M. Shrum Entrance Scholarship with a total value of $17,000. This scholarship is to recognize high academic standing on the one hand and the gifts of a well-rounded, well-balanced student on the other. Evidence of high academic per- formance and commitment to school and community service, volunteer activity, music, the arts and athletics is considered.
