Spuraways remain undeteated WEST VANCOUVER’S Under-11 Spuraways continued their winning streak at a recent soccer tourna- ment, bringing their total unbeaten record to 44 games over two years. Under the coaching of John McKenzie, the Spuraways repeated as champions at the Westburn Premier Tournament in Burnaby, with players Chung Ming Ip, Jamie Borham and Curtis Van Drimmelen strong on the local team attack. Solid back-line support was provided by Jake Daly and Rod Stewart. Also winning their age group, championships at that same tour- nament were the Under-12 Spuraways, who played to victory under coaching by Mike Allan. Instrumental in their team's vic- tory in the four-game tournament were players Erik Vu, Jason Allan and Jordon Edmonds. Other West Vancouver Soccer Club select Spuraways teams rank- ed among the top squads in tour- naments recently, sporting quality pluy and fine teamwork. Putting on a good show of sac- cer skills in the North Vancouver Lions Gate Premier Tournament were the Jimmy Dunnett-coached Under-Nine Spuraways, and the Bob Houston-coached Under-10 Spuraways. The Under-Nine Spuraways were narrowly defeated by eventual tournament champion Lions Gate. Outstanding in goal was Nicolas Drake, while Jobn Chabada, Jonathon Walker and Jamie Dun- nett provided strong support.
