This classic gift is always in good taste. Who doesn't love their colors and lovely fragrance at the dinner table? for dessert — and end up feeling mad that you've gone off your weight-loss program. Traditionally, food is a symbol of hospitality — and of gratitude. But food choices don’t have to be fattening to be good. A thoughtful hostess will realize that a heavy entree can spell trouble’ for someone on a weight-loss plan. In a similar way, the thoughtful house guest can say “thank you” with a well- chosen gift. Unfortunately. most people think this means bringing things like imported chocolates or liquor. If a guest insists, “What can I bring?” suggest one of the following ideas as an alternative to fattening food gifts. And keep them in mind when you're the guest, too. Here are some suggestions: 1. Mineral water, by the bottle or six-pack. 2. Fresh = fruit out-of- season (like strawberrnes in November) purchased at a specialty shop. 3. A table ornament, such as a napkin holder or centerpeice vase. 4. A selection of teas. If loose, tnclude a tea infuser.
