Tokyo. More recently, he
defeated Martti Vainio of

Finland, the European
champion, in a race in
Helsinki.

The Chinese will also be
well represented on the
women's side. Chinese
women won all three
throwing events at the Asian
title meet, and Li Hsiao-hui
set an Asian record in the
discus throw at 58.62.
Another world class per-
formance was recorded by
Cheng Ta-chen, who won
the High jump at 1.87 m.

and Marty Liquonm inthe
5,000 meters in World Cup 1.
and his countryman Peter
Farmer, who took third
place in the hammer throw
in that Competition, ahead of
Olympic Champion Yuriy
Syedikh.
