In the past few weeks a number
of residents on the North Shore have
received phone calls from various
clearing houses and have been
informed that they are finalists or
winners and are now cligible for a
large prize such as a car, a van, a
boat or cash.

Recipients are then requested to
forward a sum of money (usually
around $500) for registration, pro-
cessing and shipping. Once these
funds are received the prize will be
released, according to the caller.

variety of names such as: Canadian
Clearing House, Sigco Specialties
and Upgrade Distributors.

They are not members of the
Better Business Bureau and the like-
lihood of receiving a prize is remote.

A number of complaints have
been received by North Vancouver
RCMP concerning door-to-door
solicitation or phone calls from peo-
ple representing a variety of chari-
ties.

They sometimes will offer for
sale a coupon book indicating that a
