and tie, make it dead-on.

approval will be based totally on
the chosen items, and how they
work together,

There are a few things to keep in
mind if you want to guess this gift
right, every time.

Think of his shirt and tic as a
composition of color and pattern,
set against the backdrop of a suit.

The suit color and weave isn't as
important to the total look as the
harmony of the accessorizing
pieces. If they are perfect. he can
wear them with almost any suit ina
solid weave.

Fine-quality fabrics and good
construction are the most important
factors in scoring a stellar gift.
Everything else you can trust to
your good taste.

Don’t settle for less than a pure
silk tie and a pure cotton or linen
shirt. These may be the only cloth-
ing labels that a/f men read. Look
for nicely detailed buttons, intricate
topstitching and a fine 60- to 100-
count (threads per inch) weave.

If you're buying for a style-con-

scious man, you can take a little
more leeway with his wardrobe.

tems in shirt and tie. Match colors
and make the pattern in the tie bold-

tan feel.

If the shirt has a stripe, consider
a rounded-pattern tie such as pais-
ley or muted dot. If the shirt has a
dotted weave, try a more geometric
patterned tic.
