Several of these friends have married recently. 1 have never met their mates. I would like to continue writing and exchanging gifts. but feel awkward now these friends are married. May ! continue to address the letters to my friends only, or do } now need to address letters to Mr. and Mrs.? We usually exchange Christmas and birthday gifts. Should 1 now iaclude the husands in the gift exchange? GENTLE READER — Al- though seasonal greetings are customarily addressed to both members of a couple, a lady does not lose her private mailing privi- leges upon marriage. Your letters and birthday presents continue to go to her alone, although it would be courteous to send greetings to her husband and perhaps the wish that you will some day meet. If your Christmas presents are for the household, they could also be sent Holiday You Can Make The Sp to both. DEAR MISS MANNERS — we like a one-of-a-kind Christmas card, can we send the sume card every year? GENTLE READER — Provid- ed it is not a joke card. Miss Man- ners hates to think of your friends recognizing the envelope and say- ing, ‘Oh, no, here it comes again.”’ If it is a picture card, they ought to be able to stand it. However, the best cards are the simplest, almost like seasonal writ- ing paper — red- or green-edged, with a simple device such as 2 wreath — to which you add a brief note of your own. Those can be used indefinitely. DEAR MISS MANNERS — This wilt be my first yeur of sen- ding Christmas cards as a widow.
