Teaching opportunities available in Japan

CANADIANS UNDER 38) seats

ment of Japan co participate im its
Japan Exchange and Teaching
Program JET).

The JET program started in
1987, with a view to intensifying
youth exchange and to promoting

Canada and Japan.

About 230 Canadian youths will
be chosen from across Canada this
year. These participants will be
paid approximately 3,600,000 Yen
per year (about $30,000 Cana-

dian), and most of them will be
engaged in local schools as English

Applicants must be Canadian
citizens, under 35 years of age as
of Aug, 1, 1990, and perfectly
fluent in English. They must have
obtained at least one undergradu-
ate degree by Aug. I, 1990.

An interest’ in’ Japaa, good
health and adaptability to foreign
living conditions are also neces-
sary.

In addition to English language
instructers, a few who are
motivated to participate in interna-
tional activities in the local zgav-
errment, such as planning and

designing oof international — es-
change pregrams, will also be
chosen. Applicants for this area
must have a functional command
of the Japanese language.
