For 36 years, the foundation has been helping physically disabled men, women and children achieve the highest level of independence possible. The Mothers’ March began in the 1950s, when the Kinsmen and Kinettes held a one-hour porch light blitz to raise money for people disabled during a polio epidemic in B.C. For example, on the North Shore the foundation provided clients last year with such items as , orthopedic shoes, wheelchairs and over-the-bed tables. Today the Mothers’ March campaign has grown to be a two- week event. Last year, over 30,000 volunteers raised almost $2 million by canvassing door-to-door in their communities, asking neighbors for their support. When a Mothers’ March volun- teer calls at your door, remember your support helps to create in- dependent and productive futures for people with physical disabilities.
