In order to provide you with an up to date calendar of events, the North Van- couver Recreation Commis- sion and the West Vancouver Recreation Department will be providing a weekly col- umn of speciaf events and up- coming programs, = The North Vancouyer Recreation Commission pr6- vides recreation services to 100,000 residents of the City and District of North Van- couver while West Vancouver Recreation Department pro- vides services to 35,000 residents. NORTH VANCOUVER Parks and Field Allocations Meeting: Thursday, September 20, 7 p.m. Oak Room, Delbrook Communi- ty Centre, 600 West Queens. The meeting will provide op- portunities for users to hear reports from the Parks Superintendents of the City, District and School Board on their 1984-85 plans. WEST VANCOUVER Eagle Harbour Opening: The Parks and Recreation epartment is opening its ewest facility, the Eagle arbour Community Centre Saturday, September 22 m 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. To celebrate this opening a day of events will begin with the official opening conducted by His Worship Mayor Der- rick Humphreys and members of Council. Some of the activities include: sky divers, hot air balloons, medieval performers, Scot- tish dancers, Morris dancers, games for the children, a family square dance and ranks. Each player con- tributes $150 towards their costs over the season, however, this still leaves the club looking for close to $4000 for their season. Arena Open for Skating: the West Vancouver Ice Arena 1s now open for the winter season offering a wide variety of times for public skating, pre-school lessons, childrens lessons and adult lessons. The Arena is entering its 19th year of operation. Used for Parks and Recreation pro- gram offerings the Arena is also used by the West Van- couver Minor Hockey Association, commercial ren- tal groups, pre-schools, the North West Vancouver Ringette Association, Junior “Cc? OUTREACH COMPUTER PROGRAMS Delbrook offers a choice of computer workshops this fall to acquaint a!! ages with basic computer skills and language, as well as tips on how to buy your own. The first workshop will be Sept. 15-16, 9 a.m. to 12 noon for ages 10 and under and | to $5 p.m. for 11 years to adult. Silver Tigers WEST VAN Tigers (girls under 14) recently returned from the San Ramon Kick- Off Soccer Tournament in California with an impressive second place finish in this Class 1 tournament in which teams from several states and’ Canada competed. : The Tigers were undefeated in their division but they lost the final with a score of 4-3 in an exciting, hard fought match against a Cahfornia team.
