Al - Wednesday, October 12, 1983 - North Shore News HS mailbox [><] Management caused bus walkout OPEN LETTER TO JOHN PARKES, MLA As both a North Van bus driver (not a union represen- tative) and a North Van resi- dent whose family regularly uses the service, | wish to comment on your letter re- questing ‘*Tougher LRB Policy’’. I regret to say that you ap- pear to be totally misinform- ed concerning the walk-out. Firstly, it was due to a change of working conditions which have been in existence for more than 30 years and were previously considered satisfactory by both parties. Suddenly the manager of ‘One - way ticket to Dear Editor: In Victoria Mr. Barrett and his comrades are costing the taxpayer millions by their stupid delaying tactics. While during NDP’s Solidarity sit- ins, demonstrationsand rallies the government is blamed us- ing Nazi tactics, Solidarity action must remind us of the early 1930s in Germany, before Hitler’s NSDAP came to power. While we have over 150,000 unemployed in BC, why could Solidarity only North Vancouver decided to arbitrarily change the system. The union took every step possible to have the conten- tious issue resolved by a third party before any move was made but this was refused. Unfortunately, the management of Metro Tran- sit makes public statements which are untrue and paints a totally false picture. If a driver makes a false state- ment he is liable to dismissal but if the management does sO, it is acceptable. In my code of ethics it is ‘‘dishonest’’ and reminds me of the notorious wartime muster 40,0007? And a lot of these demonstrators left their jobs as sanctioned by our most destructive Labour Relations Board. And who will be signing Solidarity’s petiion: NDP supporters who lost the election May Sth. While in England unions have no rights, here they became the most undemocratic unions, destroying our economy with their greed with the support MPs desert B.C. over Dear Editor: Brniush Columbia M.-P 5 are deserting us They are embracing “the Crow’’ and forsaking our interests Phey are toeing the party line and ignoring ther constituents’ needs because thei leaders tell them to Mr Broadbent is telling his NOP followers to “keep the Crow Brian Mulroney ts telling his PC omimons to “heep the Crow and wai” And we don't hear a trom our BO MPs Where are our about to be cabinet manisters| from the West? Where are our tian Giagtons, Cooks, Prasers and peep N a a a ; J Carneys? They know that putting an end to the ancient Crow rate on the railways will provide many thousands of well paid jobs in B.C They know that it wall be hke continuing North East Coal, year after year, through to the 1990s They don’t lack for expert advice. Top level economists and company cexcculives all agree that ‘‘the Crow must go’' The national interest as well as our narrower BHC in terest says “‘Amen!*" That ts why | say our BC MPs are deserting us Hon Jack Davis, MLA North Vancouver Seymour OCT 1-14 PRE SEASON CLEARANCE O% OFF ALL 1982-83 MODELS Crakk cross country SKIS GREAT OUTDOORS ne 201 LONSDALE 980-3313 ‘We're the Cross-country experts” ‘Dr. Goebbels’’. For exam- ple, when the operator was transferred, management stated that there was no work for him to do but | assure you that there has been work available every day since the transfer! Is it any wonder that you are ill-informed? lt is not a tougher LRB that is needed but some preventative medicine in the form of common sense in management. May | remind you that dur- ing the last war, when a unit did not perform satisfactori- ly, the officers were im- mediately replaced. | believe the slogan ‘‘There is no such Poland’ of the NDP. Just imagine what would happen to us, if Barrett and his comrades would have won the election; they ruined everything in the years of plenty. Why doesn’t the govern- ment teach a lesson to Solidanty and provide them with a one-way ticket to Poland, there you don’t eat without work. S.
